LA POSTE
Bureaux de poste (post offices in French) open at 9 in the morning and close at 7 o'clock in the evening and, during weekends, are open for a half day. The post office in Paris is open for 24 hours. La Poste, the mail service of France, has postage stamps that are valid to use for overseas. It doesn't just do postal services, though. It also has courier services via Chronopost and banking services.
Every post office in France can be found listed as "Administration of PTT" in the phone book's yellow pages as well as in the White Pages.
General Services for Delivery
Most towns allow you to receive mailings at their central post office. It needs to be addressed "Poste Restante, Poste Centrale", then the town name and its postal code. It takes a convincing ID, like a passport, to collect mail, and there could be a small charge.
